How well do you screen your workers?

My family and I recently relocated when I came to join the KIDMO team just over a year ago. Among other things, relocating meant starting a church search that has had us dropping our grade school girls off at various venues. As a parent, I have become very aware of the range of receptions we have received and of the vast differences in security systems we have seen. Most every church has some sort of system for checking children "in" and keeping account of their whereabouts: some simple and some sophisticated. We make a point of asking about safety screening of adult workers, and have found that, in some churches, teachers, and helpers are required to have full background checks, and others... not. How are you doing in this area?

I'm sure you agree that the safety of the children in your ministry is absolutely essential. One of the best ways to protect your precious pupils and give their parents peace of mind is to thoroughly screen any adults that you allow to work with the kids in your program. According to the The Barna research group, many churches neglect to screen those working with children and youth. You can click here to read the full article at Barna's website and evaluate YOUR ministry to make sure you are adequately protecting the precious ones entrusted to your care.

New Lil'K series BIG should be shipping next month. They are finishing up the bible story for the last lesson and then have to put it all together. It's getting real close!

I'm not suggesting that you've (KidMo) intentionally hosed us... but the lag time between release dates boggles my mind.
Our Children's Ministry has not been damaged by repeating lessons, it's just not what we expected to have to do when we shifted to your curriculum.
I'll give you a call once our VBS has wrapped up... right now we're a little busy: Pictures from VBS Day 1

Anthony - I'm troubled you feel hurt by us here at KIDMO. That is the direct opposite of our intention. We certainly have made our mistakes along the way but have had a strong desire to bring video resources to local churches that most could never create on their own. I wish we had more lessons to offer you but we have had funding to produce 110 lessons of elementary and 60 lessons of preschool. While we would love to have more to offer (and plan to in the future), we are thrilled that media in general has become much more available and there are now options. I would be glad to spend time personally talking with you and answer all of your questions. I am really concerned if you feel we have damaged your children's ministry. We'll probably be shifting away from KidMo as a resource for some of the reasons Brenda has outlined.
Our church jumped on the wagon a little too early, it looks like, because we're now in repeat mode until the KidMo team can develop more videos. It's hard for me to understand why it takes so long to create a new series when other developers don't seem to have that same problem with lag time (252 Basics, Elevate... just to name two examples).
The KidMo concept is great.
The fact that those of us who jumped on early are getting hosed is a bummer.

Well you have my undying support. Our older elementary kids are dropping like flies. We are thinking of buying a different midweek curriculum for them. Hope you are successful. Thank the team from me for all their hard work.

Hey Brenda - Thanks for your support!
We do have two Johnny Rogers series in the works. The first script is done and they are working on Bible story concepts. The second is in script development. We hope to have one series by year end and the second in the spring of next year but should know closer dates by the end of the summer.

We have had a ton of conversations, research and development on a media-based program for an older elementary age group. We feel great about the concept that has been developed and are currently looking for investors so we can begin production. We are very excited and would love to launch it as a third program under the KIDMO brand as soon as a door opens.
